Kenya Electricity Transmission Co. stated that it is still in negotiations with Adani Energy Solutions Ltd. for the building of three power lines, notwithstanding a statement made by a presidential adviser stating that contracts worth up to $1.3 billion had already been given to two companies, including the Indian company.
According to the organization known as Ketraco, Adani indicated interest in building 388 kilometers (241 miles) of high-voltage transmission lines last year. The project was originally estimated to cost roughly $1.01 billion, but Anthony Musyoka, a general manager at Ketraco responsible for project development, said last month that the offer was reduced to $736.5 million.
At a meeting with stakeholders on Monday in Nairobi, the capital, Chief Executive Officer John Mativo stated, “There are still many boxes to tick.” “We’re going to get this country the best deal.”
Kenya revealed that the India-listed corporation is requesting a further 30-year concession to operate the country’s largest airport, which is when word of the possible purchase leaked out. That idea infuriated a lot of Kenyans, who claimed it violated procurement laws and was hidden in secrecy to evade investigation.
Legislators were informed by Transport Secretary Davis Chirchir that a privately sponsored proposal is currently undergoing review.
