Following an increase in the number of instances reported to authorities, there has been a decline in alcohol-related events on flights over the last two years, according to Air India CEO Campbell Wilson on Thursday.
At a press conference, the CEO of Air India stated that passengers must be educated on what “behaviour is acceptable” on aeroplanes, and crew members must be educated on their roles and responsibilities as well as what the airline will do to support them in the event of a “unruly passenger.”
He went on to say that the government and police are also involved and must report any incidents that occur.
“A cabin crew can enter and report in a secure area. It’s a complex issue, he continued, adding that when a concern is reported, authorities take action that is taken seriously and that reporting has a function.
According to the CEO of Air India, cabin crew members are comfortable with rowdy passengers.
“Our crew’s confidence in handling unruly passengers has increased as a result of their extensive education and training. The airline has undoubtedly increased the number of events it reports to the authorities. In my opinion, the episodes have actually come down,” he stated.
