Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ) has released its fiscal year 2023–24 accomplishments. Notably, the company handled 420 million metric tonnes (MMT) of cargo worldwide, a 24 per cent rise from the previous year.
A news statement stated that domestic ports contributed more than 408 MMT of cargo to this figure.
The business declared that in March 2024, it exceeded 38 MMT, its biggest monthly shipment volumes to date. Mundra 180 MMT, Tuna 10 MMT, Hazira 26 MMT, Mormugao 5 MMT, Karaikal 12 MMT, Ennore 13 MMT, Kattupalli 12 MMT, Krishnapatnam 59 MMT, Gangavaram 37 MMT, and Dhamra 43 MMT are the ten APSEZ ports and terminals that handled record cargo quantities.
APSEZ’s managing director, Karan Adani, credited the company’s strategic alliances and customer-focused philosophy for its extraordinary development.
Although it took APSEZ 14 years to reach the first 100 MMT yearly cargo throughput milestone, the next 200 MMT milestones were reached in a far shorter amount of time, he pointed out.
This acceleration demonstrates APSEZ’s dedication to operational excellence and solidifies its standing as the leading port operator in the sector.
Adani stated, “The company required 14 years to reach its first 100 MMT annual cargo throughput, but in 5 and 3 years, it reached its second and third 100 MMT throughputs. In less than two years, the most recent 100 MMT milestone was reached. This demonstrates our continued dedication to improving operational effectiveness and upholding our status as the leading port operator in the sector.”
APSEZ accomplished several operational milestones in spite of obstacles like disruptions to international trade and operational difficulties brought on by natural catastrophes like Cyclones Biparjoy and Michaung.
In October 2023, Mundra port became the first in India to handle 16 million tonnes of cargo in a single month. Furthermore, throughout the fiscal year, APSEZ’s CT-3 container terminal handled 3 million TEUs, making it the first in India.
The APSEZ ports in Mundra, Hazira, Kattupalli, and Ennore posted record volumes in the container segment. Rail container volumes handled by Mundra port reached a record 1.9 MTEUs, up 12% from the previous year.
Furthermore, APSEZ ports handled about 44% of India’s seaborne containerised freight, indicating a substantial market share in this area.
Ports such as Tuna, Mormugao, Karaikal, Krishnapatnam, Gangavaram, and Dhamra saw record quantities in the dry cargo category.
Notably, Krishnapatnam hosted the largest vessel ever, while Dhamra port berthed MV Ubuntu Unity, the first LNG-powered cape-sized vessel.
The ports of Mundra, Kattupalli, Krishnapatnam, and Dhamra also achieved record levels of liquid cargo.
