Tech Mahindra Partners with Indosat to Develop AI Model for Preserving Bahasa Indonesia

29 Feb 2024 , 02:19 PM

Tech Mahindra partners with Indonesian telecommunications firm Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison to develop an AI-based model called Garuda for preserving Indonesia’s national language.

Garuda, a Large Language Model (LLM), will focus on preserving Bahasa Indonesia, the official language, and local dialects of Indonesia. The model will be developed with 16 billion original Bahasa tokens, providing 1.2 billion parameters to enhance its understanding of the language.

Garuda will be based on the principles of Tech Mahindra’s indigenous LLM ‘Project Indus’, involving data gathering, curation, pre-training, and release as a conversational model for Indosat.

It aims to enable Indosat’s customers to utilize various applications, including customer support, experience, and content creation across multiple industries like healthcare, e-commerce, education, banking, agriculture, and telecom.

Harshvendra Soin, President – Asia Pacific and Japan Business, Tech Mahindra, highlights the growing LLM market, with Garuda and Indus providing opportunities for online communication in local dialects and languages. The agreement was signed during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024 in Barcelona from February 26-29.
