The Indian stock market closed lower on Wednesday as indices continue to spiral between gains and losses due to the unprecedented global scenario.

The S&P BSE Sensex fell 145.37 points or 0.25 per cent to settle at 57,996.68 while the Nifty 50 slipped 30.25 points or 0.17 per cent to end at 17,322.20. Both the indices had opened on a positive note earlier in the day but swung back and forth during the day.

On the Sensex pack, NTPC, State Bank of India (SBI), Ultratech Cement, ICICI Bank, Tata Steel and Bajaj Finance were the top losers. HDFC, Bharti Airtel, Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M), Dr Reddy’s Laboratories, Kotak Mahindra Bank and Nestle India were the top gainers.

The BSE MidCap and the BSE SmallCap indices closed today.

Most sectoral indices ended in red except Nifty Pharma (+0.38%) and Nifty Realty (+0.91%). Nifty Media declined the most at 0.82% followed by Nifty Bank (-0.81%) and Nifty Metal (-0.77%).

Meanwhile, shares of Vedant Fashions, the owner of ethnic wear brand Manyavar, are listed at Rs 936, an 8 per cent premium over its issue price of Rs 866 per share on the BSE.
