Rahul Gupta is the Business Head, SCPL and comes from a strong Mechanical Engineering background and is armed with superior management skills. He has done his Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Post-Graduation in Supply Chain Management (IIMM), and further honed his managerial skills with Executive courses from IIM (Ahmadabad), INSEAD (France) & Ross School of Business (Michigan USA); he also a member of various industry forums such as FICO.

Currently associated with TATA Group, Rahul Gupta is the Business Head at Stryder Cycle; a 100% subsidiary of Tata International Limited, established in 2009, has grown significantly, driven by superior management capabilities, a dynamic team headed Rahul Gupta and an excellent distribution.

In an interaction with Mamta Maity, indiainfoline.com, Rahul Gupta, Business Head, SCPL said "recently, we have launched a Premium Bicycle brand by the name ‘CONTINO’. Under the CONTINO brand, we offer lightweight Alloy Bicycles with unique differentiated features."

Can you tell us a bit about the bicycle range offered by Stryder Cycles?
STRYDER offers a wide range of bicycles under Premium, MTB, SLR, Kids and Roadster categories. STRYDER bicycles are available at more than 4000 retail outlets across India. Apart from being one of the leading bicycle brands in India, STRYDER also has export operations in SAARC, Africa and Middle East countries and has more than three million happy riders across geographies. 

Please throw some light on the brand’s expansion plans?
We are one of the fastest-growing bicycle brands with pan-India presence and have made major inroads in eastern India markets. Our manufacturing facilities are located in Ludhiana and we have warehouses in West Bengal and Punjab.

We have plans to enhance our manufacturing capacity and optimize our operational processes. We aim to expand our channel network and reach and work on customer delighting for which we are planning to open a few exclusive experience centers across locations.

In conjunction, we are also planning to enter a new segment - Electric Bicycles.

Tell us your company’s manufacturing capacity? What all products does brand manufacture?
We have an annual manufacturing capacity of 12 lakh units. We have more than 1000 SKUs under the STRYDER umbrella and offer products across all segments. Recently, we have launched a Premium Bicycle brand by the name ‘CONTINO’. Under the CONTINO brand, we offer lightweight Alloy Bicycles with unique differentiated features.

What has been the impact of the lockdown on your business? Which segment of the business is most affected and why?
There is hardly any sphere of life that the lockdown due to pandemic has not impacted. We have also experienced the hit, but our priority is to ensure compliance to all state and central Government guidelines. For us, the safety of our employees and the larger ecosystem comes first and we are taking all necessary precautions. We are constantly getting guidelines from our parent company, Tata International and these are being followed immaculately.

It has been nearly a month since the lockdown, how are you coping and boosting the morale of the team?
Work from home is the need of the hour and our teams have been provided with various technology tools to remain connected with each other, and with our vendors and channel.

We are also providing development opportunities to our team members to upgrade their skills through an e-learning platform and various programs organized by Tata International and Tata group. In a multi-pronged approach to ensure the well-being of our team members, we have set up emergency management teams and employee assistance programs, and are paying full salaries to our employees during the lockdown.

The team is positively occupied, planning and preparing to meet the demands of the market once the lockdown opens. All these help in keeping the morale of the team-high.
