Do you know why most Indian families clean and paint their homes before Diwali? It is said that Goddess Lakshmi will only set foot in homes that are clean and bright. That is why people clean their homes and paint the walls in bright colours to welcome Goddess Lakshmi on the auspicious occasion of Diwali.

Diwali is celebrated as the festival of lights and also heralds a new Samvat Year. Essentially Diwali marks the move away from darkness to light and from the old to the new. This year, we suggest that all of you light one extra Diya. That is the Diya of financial literacy.

Financial literacy means knowing how to save more money, how to avoid wasteful spending and how to create wealth for the future. Remember the age old wisdom that grandparents taught us, “Goddess Lakshmi dwells only in those homes where women and money are respected”.

This Diwali when you clean up your house, also clean up old ideas and embrace new ideas of savings and investments. When you paint your house with colours, remember that financial literacy can add colour to your life and brighten your family’s future. But all that is possible only if you light that extra Diya of financial literacy.

When you welcome a new Samvat 2077 this year, start with a financial plan. Financial planning will show you that you have enough ability to meet all that you need. Just start off by lighting that lamp of financial literacy this Diwali.

As you welcome Goddess Lakshmi into your homes this Diwali, we wish that Dhana Lakshmi showers you with wealth; Dhairya Lakshmi endows you with courage to face life and Vidya Lakshmi blesses you with financial literacy.

We wish you a happy Diwali and a prosperous Samvat 2077 ahead of you.
