The Ahmedabad University has become the first university in Gujarat to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants), a leading global accountancy body. This partnership will give students an opportunity to achieve a globally recognised professional qualification along with their graduation. The MoU was signed by Ilham Punjani, Business Relationship Manager, ACCA and Dr. A. H. Kalro, Provost, Ahmedabad University.

This partnership will result in the University working closely with the global accountancy body to offer the ACCA Qualification, which is equivalent to a UK Master’s degree, to its students. The ACCA Qualification is based on International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), which is significant since India’s accounting standards will be converging with IFRS in the next two years.

Commenting on the pact, Ilham Punjani, Business Relationship Manager, ACCA said: “We are delighted to work closely with H. L. Institute of Commerce on their B.Com program of Ahmedabad University, which is known to encourage its students to acquire additional skill sets and pick up professional qualifications along with their degree course. This agreement will enable young students to become finance professionals by the time they complete their graduation. To date, thousands of young people in more than 170 countries have realised their ambition with ACCA courses and have successful and rewarding careers across sectors.”

Dr AH Kalro, Provost, Ahmedabad University, said, “In our quest to provide global quality education at local costs, we have taken this key step with ACCA, the globally accepted accountancy body. At Ahmedabad University, we believe in aoffering multi-disciplinary courses which help in the all-round development of a student and our partnership with ACCA is one more step in that direction. Post completion of ACCA course, our students will be IFRS ready and geared to meet the increasing demand for accountants globally.”
