HasGeek to host third edition of The Fifth Elephant 2014

India Infoline News Service | Mumbai |

Talks will focus on the technologies for mining and processing data, and application of machine learning in finance, healthcare, advertising, retail and other domains

HasGeek, a platform for promoting interactions and collaborations between developers, is hosting India's largest community curated big data event ‘The Fifth Elephant 2014’ on July 25th and 26th at NIMHANS Convention Center, Bangalore. This is the third edition of the two-day conference.

The theme of this year’s edition is analytics. Talks will focus on the technologies for mining and processing data, and application of machine learning in finance, healthcare, advertising, retail and other domains.

Speakers from organizations such as Aerospike, Hortonworks, Google, Flipkart, Cisco and others will share application of latest technologies like Apache Tez, SSD-based databases, etc. and why techniques such as modeling, audience segmentation and personalized search are used at different stages in the business cycle.

The highlights of this year’s edition are:

  • Keynote talk on Personalized Medicine and Big Data by Dr. Anu Acharya, CEO of MapMyGenome project.
  • Keynote chat between Dr. Srini Srinivasan and Mohit Saxena on open source technologies for real-time analytics and how they are applied in enterprises.
  • Keynote talk by Dr. Vijay Srinivas on deep learning – a futuristic perspective on machine learning.
  • Closing talk on the art and science of data mining by Dr. Shailesh Kumar from Google.
  • The conference brings together developers, researchers, data scientists, analysts, CTOs, CEOs and academicians from various sectors.

The Fifth Elephant and other HasGeek conferences are notable for their crowd-sourced approach of generating and curating content. This approach enables fresh talent and innovative work – both otherwise unknown – to become known to the community.

The 2012 and 2013 editions of The Fifth Elephant featured a diverse range of talks. Innovations such as IBM’s Watson project, Strand Life Sciences’ genomics project and others were demonstrated to participants. Over the years, The Fifth Elephant has become an important platform for technology announcements and motivating adoption in the industry. This year, US-based company, Aerospike, will announce the open source edition of their SSD database at The Fifth Elephant.

Commenting on the success of the earlier editions of The Fifth Elephant, Zainab Bawa, co-founder HasGeek says, “prominent organizations are now coming forward to share data mining practices and insights. This is an important change in the last two years where many were hesitant to share their secret sauce. The Fifth Elephant is making inroads in knowledge sharing and open access.”
