Early on Wednesday, due to widespread dollar weakness and an uptick in domestic markets, the rupee strengthened 17 paise to 81.55 against the US dollar. The domestic unit started out at 81.63 against the dollar on the interbank foreign exchange but eventually climbed to touch 81.55, representing an increase of 17 paise from its previous closing.
The rupee lost 4 paise on Tuesday, falling to 81.72 against the US dollar. The 30-share BSE Sensex was up 111.56 points, or 0.18 %, on the domestic equity market, at 62,793.40 points. Likewise, the larger NSE Nifty increased by 36.30 points, or 0.19 %, to reach 18,654.35 points. According to exchange data, Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) purchased shares worth Rs 1,241.57 crore on Tuesday, making them net purchasers.
