TDS Reconciliation Analysis and Correction Enabling System (TRACES), an awesome initiative of the Income Tax Department, allows PAN and Challan corrections only for Challans filed online from financial year 2007-08 and later. Any other corrections have to be done offline through TIN-FC. For the uninitiated, here’s the summarized TRACES procedure:

Registration: The first step obviously is to sign up for TRCAES on www.tdspc.gov.in following which the user is allotted login id and password.

Correction – Once you are registered, select ‘Request for correction’ option under the 'Defaults' tab. The online form will seek details such as financial year, correction category, type of form and token number in order to complete the correction request. Hit the Submit button once you have keyed in all mandatory fields.

Tracking: You can check the status of your request through the ‘Track Correction Request’ feature. You can make Challan corrections once the request status turns ‘Available’. Remember, your request will not be processed if details entered are incorrect or do not match with that of the Challan field. Also, the correction form is enabled only after system validation of token number and statement details.
