Sanmarg Foundation organised their 8th Ram Awatar Gupt Pratibha Puraskar 2013, the only award ceremony in West Bengal where students were felicitated for their excellent performance in Hindi, in their Board Examination.
This award ceremony is an initiative by the Sanmarg Foundation to generate awareness amongst the youth on the precedence of Hindi. The ceremony was organized at Kala Mandir amongst well-known dignitaries such as Arup Roy (Minister, Agricultural marketing), Sanjay Budhia, Mira Mishra(Wife of Sudhir Mishra), Alka Bangur, Rajeev Kumar(Bidhan Nagar Police Commissioner of Police) and D. C. Vajpayee (Senior Commissioner of Police) and Principal and senior teachers from leading schools.
180 students from various boards (CISCE, CBSE, and W.B Board) were felicitated in this award ceremony. These 180 students were selected from amongst 5000 entries on the basis of their Hindi scores. There were 30 students from each of 10 and 12 of the 3 boards- CISCE, CBSE and West Bengal Board who had been selected. The 1st and 2nd toppers from each of these 30 were given cash prizes from Sanmarg Foundation worth Rs.15, 000 and Rs.10, 000 each. Thus there were 12 toppers receiving cash prizes worth Rs. 1, 50,000 in total.
A surprise Quiz was also organised for the students- the participants being selected at random from the audience (By chits). The quiz was conducted in Hindi, and the winning team (consisting of 2 participants) got a cash prize of Rs. 7,500 each, and the team coming second won a cash prize of Rs. 5,000 each. Later in the evening, certificates were given away, from Kala Kunj, to all students who have fulfilled their criteria of 90% and above in Hindi for CISCE and CBSE board, and 70% and above for WB board.
