Amendment in e-commerce rules 2020 to strengthen regulatory framework for preventing unfair trade practices

The proposed amendments aim to bring transparency in the e-commerce platforms and further strengthen the regulatory regime to curb the prevalent unfair trade practices.

The Union Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Ashwini Kumar Choubey in a written reply to Lok Sabha said that the amendments in Consumer Protection (E-Commerce) Rules, 2020, is proposed to strengthen the regulatory framework for the prevention of unfair trade practices in e-commerce.

The Consumer Protection (E-Commerce) Rules, 2020 were notified on 23rd July 2020. To further strengthen the regulatory framework for the prevention of unfair trade practices in e-commerce, Central Government has sought views/ comments/ suggestions on the proposed amendments to the Rules by placing them on the website of the Department of Consumer Affairs. The proposed amendments also include provisions related to flash sales.

The proposed amendments aim to bring transparency in the e-commerce platforms and further strengthen the regulatory regime to curb the prevalent unfair trade practices.
