According to a recent Indian Banks' Association (IBA), banks are likely to go for a partial shutdown of ATMs with low transactions as a security measure from next month, a media report said.

IBA had called the meeting of banks with reference to an incident in Bangalore, where a woman was seriously injured inside an unguarded ATM.

In a letter to RBI, IBA has said that banks will decide on which low-traffic ATMs will be closed at night and will identify the machines where guards will be deployed considering the risk aspect, the report added.

A night shut-down will cut labour costs and lower revenues marginally.
