China March exports tumble 6.6%

Exports would likely fare better in the second quarter as external demand improves

China’s exports and imports unexpectedly fell in March. The country's exports fell 6.6% in March from the year-ago period, official data showed on Thursday.
The country exports fell 18.1% in February from a year earlier. Imports fell 11.3% in March from the year-ago period, while if had risen 10.1% in February.
China reported a trade surplus of $7.7 billion for the month of March, the Customs Administration said in Beijing today.
The country's exports would likely fare better in the second quarter as external demand improves and remains optimistic about achieving this year's 7.5% trade growth target.
