European markets trade mixed ahead of ECB minutes, US-China trade talks

Bloomberg reported that next week’s planned tariff hike on China could be suspended and a media report also said that President Donald Trump may let some US companies supply Huawei Technologies Co.

US equity futures and European stocks drifted as market participants turned their focus to the much awaited trade talks between the US and China which will happen over Oct 10 and 11.

Shares in Asia were volatile over contrasting reports of trade developments.

Asian markets finished higher today with the Shanghai Composite up 0.78%, Japan's Nikkei 225 up 0.45%, and Hong Kong's Hang Seng up 0.07%.

Bloomberg reported that next week’s planned tariff hike on China could be suspended and a media report also said that President Donald Trump may let some US companies supply Huawei Technologies Co. There was also news that the US was considering a currency pact with China.

Other important events this week include minutes from the European Central Bank’s most recent gathering due today and Chinese President Xi Jinping's meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday and Saturday.
