Markets end higher for fifth consecutive session

Realty, auto, and PSU banks were the top performing sectors today.

Benchmark indices ended positive after trading in the green throughout the day on Wednesday. The Sensex closed higher by 125.37 points to close at 37,270.82, while the Nifty finished at 11,035.70, up 32.70 points.

Realty, auto, and PSU banks were the top performing sectors today. 

NIfty Realty surged ~3.9% led by Oberoi Realty (+10%) and Godrej Properties (~+6%).

Nifty Auto soared ~3.5% driven by Tata Motors and Eicher Motors (~+5%). Shares of Tata Motors surged 10% despite its global wholesale numbers going down by 32% yoy in August 2019.

Yes Bank gained a whopping ~13.8% on reports that co-founder Rana Kapoor would sell a minority stake in the bank to Paytm parent co, One97 Communications, although the bank clarified that reports were speculative in nature. 

Meanwhile, midcap and smallcap shares ended higher for the fifth session in a row.

India Vix ended down by 2.5% at 15.45.

Elsewhere, Asian markets ended mixed with the Hang Seng gaining 1.78% and the Nikkei 225 rising 0.96%. The Shanghai Composite lost 0.41%.

Oil rose on a greater-than-expected dip in US crude stockpiles. Brent crude traded above $62/bbl on Wednesday.
