MFs invest Rs. 1,607 crore in equities in August

As on August 30, 2013 there were a total of 1,248 schemes under mutual funds

Mutual Funds made net invested of Rs. 5,359 crore in the secondary market in August 2013 compared to net sale of Rs. 25,909 crore in July 2013, according to SEBI data.

Mutual funds invested Rs. 1,607 crore in equity in August 2013 against Rs. 2,169 crore sold in July 2013. Mutual Funds invested Rs. 3,752 crore in debt market in August 2013 as against of Rs. 23,740 sold in July 2013, SEBI added.

As on August 30, 2013 there were a total of 1,248 schemes under mutual funds of which Income/Debt oriented schemes were 813 (65.1 percent), Growth/ equity oriented scheme were 345 (27.6 percent), Exchange Traded Funds were 37 schemes (2.4 percent), Balanced schemes were 38 (3.0 percent) and Fund of Funds investing Overseas schemes were 22 (1.8 percent).

The number of schemes at the end of 2012-13 was 1,294 of which Income/Debt oriented schemes were 857 (66.2 percent), Growth/equity oriented scheme were 347 (26.8 percent), Exchange Traded Funds were 37 schemes (2.9 percent), Balanced schemes were 32 (2.5 percent) and Fund of Funds investing Overseas schemes were 21 (1.6 percent).

S&P BSE Sensex closed at 18619.72 on August 30, 2013, as against 19345.7 on July 31, 2013, registering a decrease of 726.0 points (3.8 percent). During August 2013, Sensex recorded an intraday high of 19569.20 on August 1, 2013 and an intraday low of 17448.71 on August 28, 2013.

CNX Nifty closed at 5471.80 on August 30, 2013 compared to 5742.0 on July 31, 2013, indicating a decrease of 270.2 points (4.7 percent). During August 2013, Nifty recorded an intraday high of 5808.50 on August 1, 2013 and an intraday low of 5118.85 on August 28, 2013.
