MFs offload equities worth Rs. 16.14 billion in March

As on March 28, 2013 there were a total of 1,294 schemes under mutual funds

Mutual Funds made net investment of Rs. 665.01 billion in the secondary market in March 2013 against Rs. 392.44 billion in February 2013, according to the latest SEBI (Securities and Exchange Board of India) data.

During March 2013, mutual funds net sold Rs. 16.14 billion in equity compared with Rs. 8.48 billion in February 2013.

Further mutual funds net invested Rs. 681.14 billion in debt market in March 2013 compared to Rs. 400.92 billion invested in February 2013.

As on March 28, 2013 there were a total of 1,294 schemes under mutual funds. Income/Debt oriented schemes comprised 857 schemes (66.2%), while growth / equity oriented schemes were 347 (26.8%).

Exchange traded funds were just 37 schemes (2.9%) whereas balanced schemes were only 32 (2.5%) and Funds of Fund investing overseas schemes were merely 21 (1.6%).

The number of schemes was 1,309 at the end of 2011-12, of which income / debt oriented schemes were 872 (71.9%), equity oriented scheme 352 (29%), ETFs were 35 schemes (2.9%), balanced schemes were 30 (2.5%) and funds of fund investing overseas schemes were 20 (1.7%).
