Equity benchmark indices have gained further momentum in the afternoon trade, with the Nifty surging 93 points. HDFC twins, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Reliance and HUL were among top contributors to the index gain.
Shares of Yes Bank, Tata Motors, ITC, Tata Steel and SBI were top losers on the Sensex chart.
The Sensex climbed 278 points to 37,605 and the Nifty50 index gained 81 points to 11,113. The market breadth was positive as 1,142 shares advanced, 552 shares declined, and 395 shares remained unchanged.
The Nifty Auto index gained 1% as the rally was led by Motherson Sumi, Eicher, Apollo Tyre and Maruti. Bajaj Auto, Bosch, Amara Raja and Tata Motors were trading under pressure.
The most active stocks are Indiabulls Housing Finance, Reliance Industries, HDFC, Yes Bank and HDFC Bank.
The Nifty Midcap50 Index gained led by DHFL, M&M Financial Services, PFC, Ramco Cements, Balkrishna Industries, Century Textiles, Cholamandalam Investments, Tata Chemicals and Voltas among others.
