Nikkei 225 ends higher on Shinzo Abe's win

The index gained 239.01 points, or 1.11%, to end at 21,696.65, its best finish since July 15, 1996.

Japan's Nikkei 225 index soared 1.1% to end higher for the 15th straight session after the country's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe won a "super majority" in Sunday's snap elections. 

The index gained 239.01 points to end at 21,696.65, its best finish since July 15, 1996.

Most of the other Asian markets ended with modest gains led by shares in Singapore.

In Hong Kong, the benchmark Hang Seng ended 0.6% lower on concerns over Jul-Sep earnings of Chinese banks that are due to report their earnings later this week.
