The BSE Sensex opened with a huge positive gap of 312 points at 26,543, and rallied to a high of 26,687 on the back of all-round buying support. Strong gains were seen in energy, infra and IT shares.
The Sensex touched an intra-day low of 26,270 (still up 39-odd points from the previous close), and finally ended with a gain of 161 points at 26,392. In the process, the BSE index, which plunged as much as 1,624-points on the first trading day of week, ended the week with a loss of 974 points.
The NSE Nifty opened with a positive gap of 105-odd points at 8,054, and went on to rally near about the 8,100-level, as the index hit a high of 8,092. The index pared gains and touched a low of 7,962, before signing off with a loss of 53 points at 8.002.
The India VIX (Volatility) index rose nearly 6 percent to 23.33.
