PM inaugurates Bharatiya Mahila Bank

Bharatiya Mahila Bank, India’s newest public sector bank, will focus on lending predominantly to women

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi inaugurated India’s first all-women Bharatiya Mahila Bank in Mumbai today.

With the inauguration of the bank, seven branches would become operational across the country, including Kolkata, Chennai, Ahmedabad and Guwahati.

Bharatiya Mahila Bank, India’s newest public sector bank, will focus on lending predominantly to women, but there will be no restriction on account opening by men.

Usha Ananthasubramanian is the first chairman and managing director of the bank.
