Rupee falls 23 paise to 73.21 against US dollar tracking domestic markets

The Indian rupee depreciated against the US dollar tracking a strong greenback in the overseas market and muted trend in domestic equities.

At the interbank foreign exchange, the rupee opened at 73.82 against the dollar, registering a decline of 23 paise at 73.21/$ from the last close.

Further, dollar strengthening to one month high on tapering sentiments ahead of the crucial Federal Reserve’s September meeting is bound to pull the Indian rupee lower on Monday, 20 September 2021.

Besides, foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) bought shares worth Rs1,552.59cr, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs), were net sellers to the tune of Rs1,398.55cr in the Indian equity market on Friday data showed.
