Rupee strengthens against dollar tracking global currencies and domestic market

The rupee opened at an upside of 74.53 per dollar compared to the previous closing of 74.66 against the greenback.

The Indian Rupee on Monday strengthened against the US benchmark dollar index as the latter weakened against a basket of Asian currencies. While upside in Indian benchmark's like Sensex and Nifty also added to rupee's performance.

In early trade of interbank forex market, the local unit appreciated by 14 paise to 74.52 against the dollar.

At around 11.44, the USDINR derivatives listed on NSE was trading at 74.7650 per dollar appreciating by 0.10% compared to the previous closing of 74.7843 per dollar.

Meanwhile, the Sensex was trading at 36,500.67, up by 479.25  points or 1.33%, and Nifty 50 was performing at 10,762.50, higher by 155.15 points or 1.48% at the same time.

Asian currencies like the Taiwan dollar, Korean won, Philippine peso and Chinese Yuan have surged in the range of 0.12% to 0.52% against the dollar index.

The rupee opened at an upside of 74.53 per dollar compared to the previous closing of  74.66 against the greenback.
