Airtel, Vodafone and Idea seek DoT help
According to the report, India's top mobile operators have sought the telecom departments intervention. Telecom Department will facilitate tower site acquisitions and optic fibre cable rollouts for boosting coverage in New Delhi famed LBZ to amid increasing complaints of call drops and substandard data coverage in the area, report said.
The Cellular Operators Association of India said in a media report that inadequate number of cell sites is proving a major constraint in providing quality mobile coverage in the LBZ, an important geographical zone in Delhi. Bharti Airtel, Vodafone India and Idea Cellular as members has exhorted the department to enable "fast-track clearance" of innumerable pending applications from telecom companies, says report.
Govt to look Into Airtel's Plan to charge for Internet Calls
As per news reports, Government will look into Airtel's plan to charge separately for Internet call services offered by apps. Airtel's plan to charge for VoIP calls at standard rate of Rs. 0.04 per 10KB on 3G network and Rs. 0.10 per 10 KB on 2G network, Telecom Minister said in a media report. Airtel customers will now have to pay extra for making calls on Skype, Viber or other apps. This is the first time in the country that any mobile operator is charging separately for VoIP service, report said.
ACME to supply telecom passive infra to PGCIL
ACME announced that it has bagged orders from Power Grid Corporation India Limited (PGCIL) worth Rs. 11.50 crores/ $2.87 mn. Under these contracts, ACME will do the planning, designing, engineering and manufacturing and supplying of the telecom Passive Infrastructure. ACME will also provide other energy requirements including ACME’s path-breaking and innovative power interface units and solar photo voltaic power supply systems. As per the contract, the project needs to be completed within one year after the date of awarding the contract.

Fitch affirms Australia's Telstra at 'A' on Pacnet acquisition
Fitch Ratings has affirmed Telstra Corporation Limited's (Telstra) Long-Term Issuer Default Rating (IDR) and senior unsecured rating at 'A'. The Outlook on the IDR is Stable. The Short-Term IDR and the commercial paper rating have been affirmed at 'F1'. This follows the announcement on 23 December 2014 that Telstra has agreed to acquire Pacnet Limited (B/Rating Watch Positive), with the deal expected to close in the quarter ending June 2015, subject to certain regulatory approvals.
Pacnet is a provider of connectivity, managed services and data centre services to telcos, corporations and governments in Asia-Pacific. The acquisition will provide Telstra ownership of an expanded data centre and submarine cable network as well as increased customer base for these services across the Asia-Pacific. Telstra plans to integrate all aspects of Pacnet, except a China joint venture holding, into its own business and is targeting to achieve a run rate of synergies of AUD65m.
