JSW Energy, led by Sajjan Jindal, intends to establish a wind turbine blade production facility in Karnataka for internal use, according to several news reports.
In addition to assisting JSW Energy in producing blades domestically rather than importing them, the plant will provide a steady supply of wind turbine generators (WTGs) and reduce the overall cost of renewable energy projects. Starting a plant to build 400–500 turbines in a year usually costs $50 million.
JSW runs its steel production facilities in Vijayanagar, Karnataka, which produce 12.5 million tonnes annually. There is enough land there to establish the WTG manufacturing facility. Additionally, it runs a 225 MW solar power facility in Karnataka close to Vijayanagar, which serves as a captive power plant for the Vijayanagar JSW Steel facility.
In March, China’s Sany Renewable Energy and JSW Renewable Technologies Limited, a fully owned subsidiary of JSW Neo Energy Limited, signed a technology license deal for the production of 3.6 MW wind turbine generators (WTGs) in India. India is currently the world’s second-largest hub for wind supply chain production, according to the Global Wind Energy Council.
