Leading automaker Maruti Suzuki notified stock exchanges on April 9 that it had increased production capacity at its Manesar, Haryana, factory to bt 1 lakh units annually. With the expansion, Manesar’s annual car production capacity now stands at 9 lakh.
“Over the next seven to eight years, we want to almost increase our capacity to four million vehicles annually. This capacity expansion of 100,000 vehicles annually is a step towards that goal. It will improve our overall capacity to produce up to 23.5 lakh units annually and enable us serve our clients more quickly” Maruti Suzuki India’s MD and CEO, Hisashi Takeuchi said in a press release.
The addition of this new assembly line to the Manesar unit’s existing plant-A has greatly increased Maruti’s overall production.
By the end of the year, Maruti hopes to launch its first electric vehicle and accelerate its EV capabilities. Major competitors Tata Motors and M&M have an advantage in this race due to their existing models in the nascent Indian electric mobility industry. The business also disclosed plans to build a new plant in Gujarat earlier in January, with the goal of opening for business by 2029.
Maruti Suzuki also reorganised its top management beginning in April, adding Shashank Srivastava to the executive committee.
