According to Reliance Industries (RIL) Chairman Mukesh Ambani, Reliance Jio will launch the 5G service by Diwali in a number of cities, including four metropolises (Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, and Chennai). It will also speed up its broadband business in an effort to make India the largest data-powered economy in the world.
To support its digital business, Reliance will invest Rs2 trillion in the 5G network, deploy innovative wireless broadband products including cloud-based personal computers, and debut a cheap smartphone in collaboration with Google. By December 2023, “every town, taluka, and tehsil” would have access to Jio’s 5G service, which will use standalone technology.
A 5G rollout in August and nationwide coverage in all of India by March 2024 were promised by rival service provider Bharti Airtel. For its 5G services, Vodafone Idea (Vi) and Airtel will both rely on non-standalone versions. Ambani said that Jio’s 5G network will be the biggest and most sophisticated in the world, capable of delivering new services like enormous machine-to-machine communication and low latency connection, among others.
In the most recent 5G spectrum auction, Jio purchased 24,740 megahertz (MHz) of spectrum across many bands, including the 700 MHz band. Jio has partnered with Qualcomm to develop solutions and infrastructure for 5G services in India and internationally. Jio is also collaborating with Google to create an inexpensive 5G-capable phone. Jio launched its 4G-capable phone with a variety of unique features and an operating system last year in collaboration with Google.
