Coal India to build 1,190 MW solar power plant in Bikaner

14 Oct 2022 , 10:10 AM

A 1,190 MW solar power facility will be built by Coal India Ltd (CIL) in Rajasthan’s Bikaner district.

In order to do this, CIL and Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot in Jaipur signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for Rs5,400 crore with the Rajasthan Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Ltd (RUVNL).

Union Minister for Coal Joshi remarked during the event that there are enough coal reserves in the nation and that states will have access to enough coal as needed.

He claimed that in order to ensure efficient coal transportation, states are also given other choices for shipping coal by land and water.

Joshi claimed that the promotion of the production of renewable energy has received special attention from the federal government.

“In addition to this, the government is attempting to produce electricity from coal without polluting the environment by embracing modern technologies,” he said.

According to Joshi, the nation’s per-capita electricity consumption would nearly quadruple by 2040, necessitating special attention to the production of electricity from renewable sources in order to satisfy future demands.

The state government, according to chief minister Gehlot, has long supported renewable energy sources.

He said that by building a solar park, the average person could have an uninterrupted power supply while also conserving coal and lowering pollution.

The chief minister claimed that the state’s allocation of coal mines had been interrupted, affecting the state’s ability to deliver coal, but that Coal India and the federal government had worked together to enhance the number of coal rakes that were made available to the state.

Gehlot also applauded the federal government’s decision to reverse its directive to the states to import coal.

The state government has allocated 4,846 hectares of land for the development of the park, where the RVUNL will build its own 810 MW solar project and the CIL will build a 1,190 MW power project.

The MoU was signed by CIL’s Technical Director V Reddy and RVUNL Chairman and Managing Director R K Sharma.
