During the April-February period of the current fiscal year, India’s coal output increased by 15.10% to 784.41 million tonnes (MT). According to preliminary coal ministry figures, the country’s coal output in the previous year was 681.5 MT.
Coal India Ltd, which accounts for more than 80% of coal output, produced 619.70 MT from April to February of FY23, compared to 542.38 MT during the same period in FY22, representing a 14.26% increase.
The ministry responsible for coal has opened up opportunities for the release of more coal into the market by encouraging captive coal block owners to make full use of their mining capacities.
This move has resulted in a significant increase in coal production, with both captive and other companies producing a provisional figure of 104.58 MT during Apr 22-Feb 23, which is 29.83% higher than the 80.55 MT produced during the same period in the previous fiscal year, according to a statement from the ministry.
Total coal dispatch was 793.86 MT during the April-February period of the current fiscal, up from 740.96 MT the previous year, representing a 7.14% increase. This demonstrates a consistent and efficient amount of coal dispatch to various sectors across the country.
