India’s fuel consumption slows down in April

9 May 2023 , 08:05 AM

According to data from the Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell (PPAC) of the Oil Ministry, India’s fuel consumption, a proxy for oil demand, was down about 0.3% year over year in April and down over 10% from March this year.

From 18.45 million tonnes a year ago, consumption was down to roughly 18.41 million tonnes.

Fuel sales decreased 10.2% from March, when they spiked to a record high due to strong economic growth in the third-largest oil consumer in the world.

Petrol sales increased 2.9% to 2.9 million tonnes. Sales of cooking gas, also known as LPG, fell 0.1% to almost 2.2 million tonnes.

Sales of diesel rose about 8.6% in April to 7.82 million tonnes, while those of jet fuel grew 18.2% year over year to 0.65 million tonnes.
