Karnataka and JSW Infrastructure reach an agreement for the Rs 4,119 crore Keni port project

30 Nov 2023 , 12:04 PM

On Wednesday, JSW Infrastructure said that it had inked a deal with the government of Karnataka to build a greenfield port project for Rs 4,119 crore in the southern state. According to a filing on the market, JSW Infrastructure claimed that the Karnataka Maritime Board and its subsidiary business, Masad Infra Services Pvt Ltd, had signed the deal.

On November 16, JSW Infrastructure announced that it has been awarded a Rs 4,119 crore public-private partnership to create a deepwater, all-weather port at Keni Port in Karnataka.

The statement went on to say that Keni Port is planned to be a greenfield, multi-cargo, direct berthing, deep-water commercial port that can handle all kinds of cargoes on the west coast of North Karnataka to support the industries in the region that includes Bellary, Hosapete, Hubballi, Kalaburagi, and South Maharashtra.

Strategically situated between two active major ports, New Mangalore Port in the south and Mormugao Port in the north, is the projected Keni Port.

JSW Infrastructure, a port-related infrastructure company, is owned by Sajjan Jindal. The installed cargo handling capacity of its ports and terminals is now 153.43 million tonnes per annum (MTPA).
