Markets close higher; Vodafone Idea plummets

Markets witnessed a positive day of trade, with the benchmark index trending higher for the major part of the trade. Both Nifty and Bank Nifty closed around intraday highs gaining by ~0.3% each.

Across the board selling pressure was seen in Vodafone Idea as the stock plummeted ~20% lower after the announcement of equity dilution at a lower than expected price.

The Nifty Midcap 100 index closed ~0.1% higher. Market breadth ended in the favour of the declines with the advance/decline ratio closing at 1:1x. Nifty saw an addition of long positions during the day.

On the options front (January 27, 2021 expiry), across the board writing was seen in the put option strikes as the Nifty index trended higher.

India Vix index closed at 17.7, up ~0.3%.
