The Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC) has decided to conduct a third-party audit of the Rs 1900 crore spent by Tata Power for the development of electricity distribution infrastructure in Odisha.
The decision was made during the annual performance review of Tata Power Central Odisha Distribution Limited (TPCODL) in Bhubaneswar. Along with the audit, Tata Power will facilitate monthly visits by senior OERC officials to each of its divisions to assess spending appropriateness and identify infrastructure shortcomings.
The OERC has instructed Tata Power to complete feeder metering and transformer metering within a specified time frame. Tata Power denies power cuts due to overloading or load shedding, attributing outages to norwester rains.
Locals have staged protests and road blockades, accusing Tata Power of unscheduled power cuts and low voltage issues. The OERC’s decision for a third-party audit aims to address power outage concerns and ensure transparency in Tata Power’s infrastructure spending.
The audit reflects the urgency to resolve the power outage issue and provide reassurance to affected residents.
