According to sources, the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) reached a new daily retail orders peak of 35,000 on July 9, and Delhi-NCR outpaced Bengaluru in terms of order volume.
As per the reports, on Sunday, Delhi-NCR recorded approximately 11,000 orders. While, Bengaluru’s share was more than 7,000 orders to the total.
The next three cities in order volume terms were Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Pune, each with 2,500-3,000 orders. Food and grocery orders are included in retail orders. The share of food orders on the government-backed interoperable network so far is much more than retail orders.
According to T Koshy, chief executive officer of the interoperable network, the network is on track to reach 200,000 transactions per day by the end of the year. Koshy also stated that ONDC is working to bring financial products to the network, which should happen within the next few months.
When ONDC crossed the 10,000 daily orders threshold for the first time in May, the distribution was more skewed, with Bengaluru accounting for around 40% of the orders. On the other hand, top metro cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Kolkata contributed the same share cumulatively.
ONDC, which is backed by the government, aims to prevent the monopoly of a few large platforms, such as Amazon, Swiggy, Flipkart, and Zomato, in the e-commerce and food delivery sectors.
