According to the most recent price notice that fuel retailers distributed, the cost of gasoline and diesel on September 26 was unchanged nationwide.
Despite a decline in oil prices internationally, fuel costs have remained constant for more than a month. A liter of gas costs Rs96.72 in Delhi, while a liter of diesel costs Rs89.62. Diesel costs Rs94.27 in Mumbai, while a liter of gasoline costs Rs106.31. In Chennai, the prices for gas and diesel are Rs102.63 and Rs94.24, while in Kolkata, they are Rs106.03 and Rs92.76.
After plummeting to eight-month lows the previous week owing to the strengthening of the US dollar and worries that sharp hikes in interest rates would trigger a global recession and cut demand for gasoline, oil prices slightly rose in early trade on Monday.
As the dollar index hit a fresh 20-year high on Monday, oil price gains were muted. Brent crude futures had risen by 17 cents, or 0.2%, to $86.32 per barrel at 01:16 GMT, while West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures had risen by 21 cents, or 0.3%, to $78.95 per barrel. Both contracts decreased on Friday by approximately 5%.
