Retail inflation for farm and rural employees rose to 6.94% and 7.26%, respectively, in August, primarily as a result of increasing food prices. According to a statement from the labour ministry, retail inflation for farm and rural employees in July was 6.60% and 6.82%, respectively.

Agricultural workers (CPI-AL) and rural workers (CPI-RL) experienced food inflation rates of 6.16% and 6.21%, respectively, in August 2022, compared to 5.38% and 5.44%, respectively, in July 2022 and 2.13% and 2.32%, respectively, in the corresponding month the previous year.

The increase in the prices of rice, Wheat-Atta, Bajra, Maize, Pulses, Milk, Onion, Chilies Green/Dry, Turmeric whole, mixed spices, Vegetables & Fruits, Gur, etc. was the main factor contributing to the rise in the general index of Agricultural Laborers and Rural Laborers, which was 7.74 & 7.36 points, respectively.

In 20 states, there was a rise of 3 to 15 points for Agricultural Laborers. Himachal Pradesh was at the bottom of the index table with 898 points, while Tamil Nadu was at the top with 1312 points.

In 20 states, there was an increase of 3 to 17 points for rural laborers. Himachal Pradesh was at the bottom of the index table with 951 points, while Tamil Nadu was at the top with 1301 points.

Between the states, Jammu & Kashmir and Uttar Pradesh experienced the largest increases in the Consumer Price Index Numbers for Agricultural Laborers (15 points each) and for Rural Laborers (17 points), respectively. These increases were primarily brought on by increases in the prices of rice, wheat-atta, dried chilies, vegetables & fruits, etc.
