Wipro Limited’s HR Chief Saurabh Govil said that the future salary hikes at the IT giant will be based on individuals ‘upskilling and reskilling’ themselves, emphasizing ‘niche skills’ such as generative AI and cybersecurity.
Govil further highlighted that the company will not hire new employees with a direct 30% pay rise.
Govil, who has served as Wipro’s Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) for over three decades, stated that in 2021, there were abundant opportunities leading to high attrition rates and the hiring of employees at 30% higher premiums. However, the situation has changed, and now specialized skills such as generative AI and cybersecurity will command a higher premium, as mentioned in an interview with an English daily.
On this subject, he stated that the company’s goal is to have bots handle 80% of the queries directed to the HR department. HR professionals, on the other hand, will coach managers and leaders on how to build and manage teams, according to Govil.
These remarks by Wipro’s human resources chief were dropped at a time when 92% of freshers awaiting onboarding have accepted the Bengaluru-based firm’s proposal to join at a starting salary (Rs 3.5 lakh a year) which is lower than what was initially offered (Rs 6.5 lakh a year).
