A Japanese producer, Yokohama Rubber Company, has announced plans to increase its production of passenger car tires in India. Through Yokohama India, the business plans to invest 671 crore rupees ($80 million) in increasing its annual tire production capacity in the Indian market.
Yokohama India has been in business since 2007 and focuses on producing tires that are tailored for Indian road conditions. The company intends to add the new capacity to its current Indian factory in Visakhapatnam. The additional production line will concentrate on producing 22-inch passenger car tires and is anticipated to start operations in the fourth quarter of 2024.
The annual production capacity of Yokohama has increased significantly, rising from 700,000 tires in 2014 to 1.53 million tires in 2019 and 1.96 million tires in 2021. Additionally, the company can already produce 2.8 million tires annually at its Bahadurgarh, Haryana, factory.
For the production of off-road tires, Yokohama has three production sites in Tirunelveli (Tamil Nadu), Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh), and Dahej (Gujarat).
The tire manufacturer recently opened its 51st store in Salem, increasing its retail presence in Tamil Nadu. This location provides a comprehensive showroom for the whole Yokohama product line, which includes SUVs and passenger car tires. Wheel alignment and wheel balancing are among the other tire-related services provided by the brand’s YIN dealership locations.
