Centre to allow booking of daily flights from Darbhanga by Sept-end; Good news for SpiceJet

Aviation Minister said, Spicejet has already been awarded this route under RCS-UDAN.

Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has said that booking for daily flights will start by end of September from Darbhanga to Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru. The decision comes after reviewing the groundwork of Darbhanga airport which is situated in Bihar. This comes as good news for private carrier SpiceJet.

Puri said that the flight operations will begin in the first week of November, before the auspicious festival of Chhath Puja. This a boon for 22 districts of North Bihar, Puri said.

Acknowledging the progress of work of Darbhanga airport, Puri said that most of the work at the airport is almost complete. He added that arrival and departure halls, check-in facility, conveyor belt etc have already been installed and remaining work will be completed before end October.

He further said, Spicejet has already been awarded this route under RCS-UDAN.

The ministry also reviewed the work at Deoghar airport in Jharkhand. Puri said that the work at the Deogarh airport is at an advanced stage and will be completed on schedule. He further said that the airport would be operationalised very soon.

According to Puri's statement, some key decision in regards to Deoghar airport will be announced this week.

Meanwhile, SpiceJet stock witnessed huge buying sentiment on Monday. The airline's stock ended at Rs53.30 per piece surging by 3.90% on Sensex.
