  • Defence PSU, HAL has been chosen to supply Advanced Light Helicopters to the Indian Coast Guard.

At a recent meeting of the Defence Acquisition Council chaired by Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh, an Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) was granted for capital acquisitions worth over Rs70,500 crore under the Buy Indian-IDDM program.

The Indian Navy submitted proposals that constitute more than Rs56,000 crore of the total, with a focus on acquiring indigenous BrabMos missiles, Shakti Electronic Warfare (EW) systems, and Utility Helicopters-Maritime.

The Indian Navy's maritime strike capabilities and anti-surface warfare operations will be improved with the additional procurement of BrahMos missile system, while the inclusion of Utility Helicopters will significantly enhance their operational readiness.

The approval of the AoN for the Medium Speed Marine Diesel Engine under the Make-I category is a crucial milestone, marking India's first foray into the indigenous development and manufacturing of such engines. This move is aimed at achieving self-reliance and harnessing the capabilities of Indian industries towards the goal of 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat.'

The DAC approved the Indian Air Force's proposal for an indigenously designed, developed and integrated Long Range Stand-Off Weapon (LRSOW) on the SU-30 MKI aircraft.

Further, the DAC has also given its approval for the procurement of the Advanced Towed Artillery Gun System (ATAGS) with High Mobility Vehicles (HMVs) and Gun Towing Vehicles (GTVs) for the Indian Army.

In addition to the above, the DAC also approved the procurement of Advanced Light Helicopters (ALH) MK-III from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for the Indian Coast Guard.

With the addition of today's proposals, the total AoN granted for Capital Acquisition in FY 2022-23, exceeds Rs2.71 lakh crore, with 99% of the procurement to be sourced from domestic industries.

This substantial amount of indigenous procurement will serve as a catalyst to drive the Indian industries towards realizing the objective of an 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' or self-reliant India.
