NTPC REL and the Indian Army have recently joined forces to establish Green Hydrogen Projects using the Build, Own, and Operate model.
By doing so, they aim to simplify logistical operations, decrease their reliance on non-renewable energy sources, and expedite their efforts towards achieving decarbonization.
Mohit Bhargava, who serves as the CEO of NTPC REL, and Lt. General Rajinder Dewan, PVSM, AVSM, VSM, QMG, recently came together to sign the MoU.
The Indian Army currently relies on diesel generator sets to power various off-grid locations. However, in keeping with the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision of ‘PANCHAMRIT’ and Carbon Neutral Ladakh, the Indian Army has set its sights on reducing its dependence on fossil fuels and streamlining its logistics for power generation and heat.
As part of the MoU, both parties will collaborate to identify potential sites suitable for the establishment of green hydrogen projects, with the aim of supplying electricity in a phased manner.
The signing of the MoU represents a forward-thinking approach to modernization by the Indian Army and underscores NTPC’s dedication to serving the nation and supporting its decarbonization objectives.
NTPC REL is a subsidiary of NTPC Limited, operating through its wholly-owned subsidiary NTPC Green Energy Limited. Presently, NTPC REL is in the process of constructing a renewable energy (RE) portfolio with a capacity of 3.6 GW.
