In the last few days, the sharp fall in the Indian markets can be attributed to the sharp spike in the US bond yields and the dollar index. They may appear to be remote factors, but they do have a strong bearing on the Indian markets.

Spot gold was up 0.2% to $1,823.79 per ounce, trying to recover from Tuesday's lows, which marked the metal's lowest point since March. Futures for U.S. gold increased 0.2% to $1,838.20.

Brent crude oil futures were up 11 cents to $85.92 a barrel, while WTI was up 7 cents to $84.29 at the same time.

The GIFT Nifty on the NSE IX is showing a modest increase of 8 points, equivalent to 0.04%, as it stands at 19,491.
