Larsen & Toubro’s Power Transmission and Distribution division has secured major contracts in the Middle East and Africa to enhance high-voltage electricity grids. The project scope includes the implementation of a nationwide energy management system to monitor and optimize power distribution. Orders worth between ₹5,000 Crore and ₹10,000 Crore are categorized as ‘major’ by L&T.
In Kenya, L&T, in collaboration with an equipment manufacturer, will construct a National System Control Centre to streamline power flow across the country, integrating varied generation sources and dispatching power efficiently.
The Kenya project will also involve setting up a backup energy management system at a secondary site. In Saudi Arabia, L&T will undertake the turnkey construction of high-voltage transmission lines; in Qatar, it has secured contracts for additional gas-insulated substations as part of ongoing power system upgrades.
Recently, L&T received a significant contract (₹1,000 Crore to ₹2,500 Crore range) from ITER, an international nuclear research organization.
For the Global Nuclear Fusion Project in Cadarache, France, L&T will apply advanced welding techniques to assist in the assembly of the Vacuum Vessel, a critical part of the fusion reactor.
