Suzlon Energy Ltd., the largest wind energy company in India, has on 23rd April announced that it has won a 378 MW order for a wind energy project from NTPC Green Energy Ltd. (NGEL). This is Suzlon’s second large order from NTPC Green Energy in the past eight months and is a testimonial to the consolidation of their strategic alliance.
With this new order, Suzlon’s total order book from NTPC Green Energy is 1,544 MW, one of its largest collaborations with a public sector organization. The project consists of the supply and installation of 120 of the most advanced S144 Wind Turbine Generators (WTGs) each having a rated capacity of 3.15 MW.
These turbines shall be erected on Hybrid Lattice Towers (HLT) and commissioned in Karnataka’s Gadag district, a windy spot apt for generating wind power. Turnkey project execution such as foundation laying, construction, commissioning, and maintenance and operation (O&M) shall be performed by Suzlon.
This project supports NTPC Green Energy’s overall vision of reaching 60 GW capacity of renewable energy by 2032, with wind power forming a key part of its clean energy mission.
“The partnership is the key to offering low-cost, predictable, and clean wind power that will drive India’s transition to renewable energy,” stated Suzlon Group’s Vice Chairman Girish Tanti.
Significantly, Suzlon had ordered its largest-ever wind order of 1,166 MW in September 2024 from the same PSU, which was also a firm as well as an Indian wind energy industry record. This latest order also sustains Suzlon’s leadership role as an anchor driver for India’s green energy vision, aiding decarbonization goals as well as infrastructure development.
