Gurpratap Boparai, CEO of Mahindra's European business, resigns

29 Apr 2024 , 01:33 PM

Gurpratap Boparai, CEO of Mahindra’s automotive divisions in Europe, Mahindra Trucks & Buses (MTB), and construction equipment, has resigned from the company, according to an internal circular signed by Rajesh Jejurikar, executive director and CEO auto and agriculture sectors.

He joined Mahindra in 2022 to lead the company’s European operations, which included Peugeot Motors and Automobili Pininfarina. Boparai decided to pursue opportunities outside the Mahindra Group, according to the statement. His final working day will be May 31, 2024.

The press release stated that Boparai has been instrumental in the Mahindra Truck and Bus Division and Construction Equipment (MTBD and CE), leading the divestment and associated activities at Peugeot Motors, as well as supervising Automobili Pininfarina (APF).

Vinod Sahay, president of aerospace and defence and chief purchase officer (CPO) of auto and farm sectors (AFS), will now be in charge of the truck and bus and construction equipment businesses following his resignation. After May 31, 2024, Sahay will be appointed President and Chief Purchase Officer (CPO) of AFS, as well as President of Aerospace and Defence, MTBD, and CE.

Following this move, the production and supply chain functions for MTBD and CE will be aligned with Sahay’s structure, and Jalaj Gupta, the Business Head for MTBD and CE, will report to Sahay. Rajeev Goyal, CFO for AFS, will take over the APF business in transition from Boparai.

The change will come into effect from June 1, 2024.

Boparai joined the Mahindra Group in January 2022, bringing almost three decades of experience in the automotive business. Prior to this, he was the Managing Director of Volkswagen Group’s Indian business, reporting directly to its worldwide CEO, Thomas Schaeffer.
