State-owned NLC India Ltd (NLCIL) said on Wednesday (August 28) that it has inked a 25-year power use agreement with Telangana state discoms (distribution companies) for 200 MW of solar energy at a reasonable price under the central public sector undertaking (CPSU) plan.
Under the Atmanirbhar Bharat (Make in India) initiative, the project will be constructed with cutting-edge technology, including single-axis trackers, and domestically manufactured high-efficiency modules with the goal of increasing generation.
NLCIL’s solar project is expected to create approximately 1,300 Crore units of green power and offset 90 lakh tonnes of carbon emissions over its lifetime. The project is planned to be completed by June 2025.
This partnership has the dual benefit of providing affordable green power while also meeting Telangana’s renewable procurement mandate. For over three decades, NLCIL has been supplying Telangana with more than 234 MW of inexpensive thermal electricity.
NLC India Ltd, a navratna under the Ministry of Coal, is the country’s first CPSE (central public sector company) to generate 1GW of solar power.
At around 11.02 AM, NLC India was trading 0.98% higher at ₹279, against the previous close of ₹276.30 on NSE. The counter touched an intraday high and low of ₹288, and ₹277.30, respectively.
NLC India Limited (NLC) is a Navaratna Government enterprise in India that mines fossil fuels and produces thermal power. On November 14, 1956, the Government of India (GOI) established Neyveli Lignite Corporation Limited. It became public on March 7, 1986, and is now owned by the Ministry of Coal.
