On Wednesday, May 29, 2024, the National Stock Exchange (NSE) banned trading in the futures and options (F&O) segment for five stocks. The five stocks currently on the F&O ban list are Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail, Biocon, Hindustan Copper, Vodafone Idea, and Piramal Enterprises.
F&O contracts of any stock enter the ban phase when its Open Interest (OI) surpasses 95% of the Market-Wide Position Limits (MWPL). The ban is lifted only if OI drops below 80%.
These stocks can still be traded in the cash market. The NSE updates the list of F&O banned securities daily.
The NSE stated that the derivative contracts for these stocks have surpassed 95% of the MWPL and are now under the ban period.
The NSE instructed that all clients and members should only reduce their positions in these securities by offsetting positions. Any increase in open positions will result in appropriate penalties and disciplinary actions, as per the NSE statement.
