According to reports, Adani group and Reliance industries may be investing in setting up compressed biogas units.
According to a senior executive at an oil marketing firm, RIL and Adani both intend to enter the market with multiple units.
Municipal trash, sugarcane press mud, and agricultural waste are all decomposed anaerobically to form CBG. Green hydrogen made from CBG is also being studied as a potential replacement for piped natural gas for domestic usage.
The report further said that RIL and ANIL will feed CBG into their petroleum retail outlets and CGD network.
Adani Total Gas, a subsidiary of the Adani Group, is engaged in the distribution of city gas. CBG has become a lucrative market for private companies, according to another executive with knowledge of the growth, thanks to its competitive pricing.
The person stated that the bio-manure produced after the manufacture of CBG can be a useful fertilizer and be used for farming and enhancing soil health. The government started the program to increase CBG production and availability as a substitute and reasonably priced clean fuel for transportation in October 2018.
By the financial year 2023—2024, 5,000 CBG plants were planned to be installed.
Up to 60% of the methane, 40%—45% of the carbon dioxide, and traces of hydrogen sulfide are found in the biogas produced.
